Houston Dynamo 2 defender Jon-Talen Maples scored the game’s opening goal, his second of the season, in the 26th minute. Maples’ tally came following a corner kick that was deflected by one of Colorado Rapids 2’s men, which he then controlled with his chest and shot to the back of the net.
The visiting side put up a good defensive effort in the first half as Dynamo Dos controlled possession of the ball, pressed and had plenty of set-play opportunities. Erik Bushey’s squad gained more possession towards the end of the first half but failed to turn things around.
The second half saw a 50-50 effort by both teams, however, neither side presented a real threat. It wasn’t until the late stages of the match that Dynamo 2 midfielder Diego Gonzalez added a second goal in stoppage time to close out the match.
Dynamo 2 will look to earn back-to-back wins when they face MNUFC2 at Allianz Field Saturday, May 14. While Rapids 2 will travel once again to face Earthquakes 2 at PayPal Park Sunday, May 15.
