Tacoma Defiance cruise past Colorado Rapids 2 in 2-0 win

Tacoma Defiance won its second straight game following a 2-0 win over Colorado Rapids 2 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park Sunday night.

The visitors now move into third place in the Western Conference and are undefeated in their last five matches.

After a scoreless first half, Defiance midfielder Dylan Teves opened the scoring in the 58th minute thanks to multiple errant passes from the home side. The Rapids 2 looked to play the ball out from the back, but Teves was there to pounce on the ball to slot into the net.

Not content with a 1-0 lead, Defiance midfielder Marlon Vargas doubled his side’s advantage 13 minutes later. A quick and decisive counterattack from the visitors set up Vargas to tap in the opportunity making it 2-0.

Despite out shooting Tacoma Defiance eight shots to four, Rapids 2 couldn’t put away its chances with only two of its shots being on target.

Rapids 2 has lost three consecutive games, but still remain ninth in the Western Conference.

The Story: Defiance surges up the Western Conference with undefeated form

Tacoma Defiance is now third in the Western Conference following its 2-0 road win over Colorado Rapids 2.

The team is undefeated in its last five matches as it has scored 11 goals and conceded four during that stretch, going 3-0-2 for 13 points in the process.

In that five game span the backline has stepped up thanks to goalkeeper Andrew Thomas. The 23-year-old has 15 saves and two clean sheets over the last five matches, along with two shootout wins.

With the help of defenders like Achille Robin and Stuart Hawkins, Tacoma Defiance now has a stout backline that have held the likes of Western Conference powerhouses Houston Dynamo Dos and North Texas SC to one goal each.

The Defiance frontline also has kept pace.

Midfielder Marlon Vargas scored again this week following his first goal last week. With forward Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez not finding the back of the net the last three matches, Vargas has provided a much needed boost.

Tacoma Defiance now looks to make it three straight wins and six games undefeated next week at home against Timbers2.
